the classic (but modern) farmhouse | part one
We were so thrilled to help with this year's parade home for Edge Homes. This beautiful home was built on the outer edge of the Herriman community where large expansive farmland used to control the entire area. I can't imagine a better style for this home than the classic but updated farmhouse aesthetic. It's a tribute to the peaceful land the community was built on.
With its white and crisp color scheme and simple architectural finishes, we decided to keep the design clean and crisp as well. The use of natural linens, warm textures, and simple colors throughout make you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. We love how welcoming the space is. In fact, I'm pretty sure this sofa is calling out to me right now telling me to lay down and stay a while. I wish sofa... I wish.
The long narrow floor plan required a few little tricks to elongate the typical living room layout. We used a desk behind the sofa for a little evening homework sesh with the kids or mom's event planning side-gig. Two lounge chairs mirror the sofa with a chaise and poufs filling the space in between and creating opportunity for ample seating. This space is a flexible and entertaining-ready living room!
The warm wood tones contrasted with black classic silhouettes is a theme of sorts throughout the house. The wood tones are a must, while the black compliments the modern windows on the exterior, and lighting/hardware accents. The main living space has a little blue vein running through that brings the life to the party in the pillows, accessories, and this pretty rug here.
The kitchen. Clean and classic, modern but subtle. We love the warm grey pantry door, the mini brick backsplash reminiscent of the classic subway tile, and the rich, warm whites contrasted with the dark wood floors. I feel ready to start making pies with the fall weather outside!
Look for another post with the rest of the rooms in this home! Below are a few of the sources used to create this space.
