the rad reno: kitchen [before + after]
Don't you love a good before and after photo? We sure do! It was great collaborating with our clients to give their kitchen and dining room some much needed updates! Again, looking to bring a lighter and brighter feel into their main living space, we pulled together a light neutral color palette with our paint, flooring, countertops, backsplash, and accessories to achieve the desired look.
Painting existing cabinetry and mill work is a great way to easily update a space on a budget. As you can see, it completely transforms the shape to a much more contemporary look. Another game changer in this space was removing the bead board on the island and replacing it with trim to match the rest of the kitchen cabinetry. A design element we always keep in mind is unity vs. variety. A successful space has elements that tie together and blend well in order to have variety and interest in other areas. There always needs to be a balance.
Another trick that always plays out well is taking your backsplash material all the way to the the ceiling. In this case, we did not have the budget to replace the cabinetry and take it to the ceiling, so we made the floating pieces look intentional by taking the tile to the ceiling. This also brings a feeling of cohesiveness to the kitchen.
Updating the faucet made a large impact. It's amazing when something so simple like a faucet becomes a big player in the transformation, as well as increases the functionality. This classic silhouette seriously made our hearts go pitter-patter when it was installed.
And... wait for it..... check out the dining area below! This was our favorite part of the entire renovation! Light fixtures are everything!
Bringing some touches of brass in various forms was instrumental in warming up the space and making it feel more inviting. And that table... well its been a favorite of ours for a good time. This was one of the client's favorite pieces in the new design and rightfully so! Complimented with the perfect kid-friendly dining chair, this space became somewhat of a show-stopper in their home.
We were so grateful for the opportunity to work with such friendly and loving clients who were ready for an amazing change. We are so happy with how this space turned out and with how it improved the way they lived! The renewed feelings of energy and peacefulness this home displays are so priceless.
We hoped you enjoyed this small before + after series! We hope you'll continue to follow along with the next projects coming your way in 2016. Happy holidays!!
