the things that matter | nate berkus

Two things stood out to me and Stephanie when we first saw this book, 1. The cover is mostly neutral which obviously works well in any space as a coffee table book, and 2. It's Nate Berkus. This was a win-win situation that made us snatch it up and bring it home last year.

Nate's book is a compilation of his own home as well as twelve others that give us a glimpse into each individuals life.  If this book proves nothing else, it's that we're all individuals with individual needs and wants. The things we put in our home should reflect what make us unique.  Nate Berkus is a master when it comes to tailoring your home to make it perfectly you.  He's all about the hunt to find the perfect items that resonate with his clients or to seamlessly incorporate the often very opinionated antique his clients have been hanging onto for years, but have never known where to use it.

"Each object tells a story and each story connects us to one another and to the world. The truth is, things matter. They have to. They're what we live with and touch each and every day. They represent what we've seen, who we've loved, and where we hope to go next. They remind us of the good times and the rough patches, and everything in between that's made us who we are."  - Nate B.

Right now the things that matter to me are cuddling those cute baby feet and eating a parfait this morning.  As for my home, well, it's always a work in progress!

Feel free to grab a copy of Nate's book here or at your favorite design store.  Give it a read, and see if your outlook changes on the things you surround yourself with everyday.  Until next time,
